Health Issues Before You Move
Even thought your mind must be full of thoughts and concerns about your upcoming move, one thing must never be forgotten…Your Health! Depending on what your new destination is, health issues can be complicated and you should put a lot of research into what kinds of vaccinations or immunizations are required before you move. You will be able to find this information at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
You should also visit your doctor for a general checkup before you move. Remember to let him know you are moving and will need all your medical records.
If you are taking any medications you should check to see if these medications are available in your new destination and if it requires a prescription. But it is always wiser to bring along an extra supply of medication. This will give you more time to settle down before you locate your medication or a new doctor for a prescription.
Check with your insurance provider about insurance coverage at your new location. Question if you will have a certain amount of time to change to a local provider and if you will be offered the same coverage in your new destination.
As soon as you arrive at your new destination inquire about all emergency telephone numbers such as an emergency number (e.g. 911), police and fire station. Remember to keep these numbers with you at all times. |
